Cubana Cafe coming to Sixth Avenue

The long-shuttered grocery at the corner of Sixth Avenue and St. Marks Place is being transformed into an outpost of Cubana Cafe. The Cuban-themed eatery, which also has locations in SoHo and Carroll Gardens, should open by July, provided the liquor license comes through. According to the owner's brother, this branch will be "more focused on fresh fruits and fine rum."

I'll look forward to their opening. If you absolutely can't wait for your Cuban sandwich fix, I'd recommend Gran Castillo de Jagua, just up the block.

It's too bad the place has nothing to do with actual cuban food itself.
