New to the Neighborhood: Glow Accessories, 70 Seventh Avenue

When Glow Accessories opened a couple weeks ago in the space last occupied by Slope Sports, on Seventh between Berkeley and Lincoln, many were wary that the jewelry and accessory shop would be just another cookie cuter, run-of-the-mill cheap knockoff jewelry store. A visit to the shop, however, reveals that it's anything but.
"We wanted to create an experience where everyone of all ages can come and enjoy the store, and be able to afford what we're selling," said owner Jisoo Sun, who also runs an accessory import company in Manhattan. "If you're looking for some jewelry to wear for the weekend or for an event, that experience can't be expensive, but it has to look great."
Merchandise runs the full gamut of bracelets, necklaces, rings, earrings, and also scarves, gloves, headbands, and hats, and it all sells at between 5 and 50 dollars. It's all certainly unique, and rotates near-weekly.
"Our jewelry is imported from Korea, but don't think that's a bad thing," said Jisoo, who lives on President Street. "There's so much competition there that the wholesale marketplace has hundreds of stalls, each selling hundreds or thousands of varieties of handmade jewelry, and it changes every week. There's so much creativity."
The store is also very nicely appointed, with antique furniture and vintage chandeliers. "I hate cookie cutter stores, and ones that look like chains" said Jisoo. "I wanted to create a different look, with personality, and respect tradition and the neighborhood."
That concept- a store selling costume jewelry that's also in fashion, in such a classy space- is actually unique in Park Slope. Just one thing: don't call it cheap.
"It's not cheap!" said Jisoo emphatically. "This is not low quality jewelry. We're not selling it as real, we're selling it so people can look pretty at the party without spending a fortune."
And there's nothing wrong with that.

I was out last night and was thinking about a bracelet I had seen at a store recently, I really liked it a lot but couldn't justify the $100 price tag (it was a silver bracelet), for the amount of times I would wear it. A place like this would fill my need for the style of bracelet without the price. Good point about wanting something just for a certain event, etc.. Glad they let you go back and really check it out!
