New South Slope Szechuan Restaurant About to Open

It's a fast food kind of day here on HPS. A pizzeria is opening on Seventh between 14th and 15th, and one block south, between 15th and Windsor, a restaurant called Szechuan Garden is about to open, in the space last occupied by Shoe Mine.

The restaurant has a pretty well-done website up and running, and a menu reveals that along with the traditional take-out dishes like beef with broccoli and sesame chicken, there's a rather extensive selection of authentic Szechuan dishes, like braised beef and napa cabbage with roasted chili, and braised whole fish Szechuan style. There's also a whole section of their website devoted to an extensive history of Szechuan cuisine, so it's quite apparent that they take their Szechuan cooking seriously (as opposed to, say, another restaurant with a similar name further up Seventh).

Judging by this peek into the interior, they should be opening up for business any day now.

Hard to believe this was the pretty Shoe Mine retail space, isn't it?

On the website, in the "about us" section they refer to the neighborhood as "Park Slop"

Not a great start. :)

hahahha "interesting" website is more like it. Feels a bit Christmas-y.

Still, I'll give the place a go.

Their "coupon" section of the website is empty. No coupon for you!

I hope this place is good. They will be serving all my favorite authentic dishes which I can't get anywhere near park slope. And if it's good, I also hope people in park slope appreciate how special an offering like this is in park slope. It's a pretty gutsy move offering authentic Chinese food in white wash park slope. Please try their authentic stuff (not their sesame chicken) and if good spread the word. We need to embrace this type of effort in park slope. I am so excited!!!
