Closed for Business: Oko Frozen Yogurt and Tea, 152 Fifth Avenue
Monday, November 28, 2011 at 10:51AM
Oko, the frozen yogurt shop on Fifth Avenue between Degraw and Douglass, closed down last Wednesday.
The shop was focused on being as eco-friendly as possible, using only all-natural ingredients and packaging, but neither that, nor its prime North Slope location, could keep it afloat in such a crowded market (it was also a go-to place for many waiting for the adjacent bus stop).
As of yesterday, the space had been near-completely gutted, and the For Rent sign is up. If you still need your fix, there's another location in Forest Hills.

Never liked their yogurt.
So sad. I really liked that place... and so did my little girl.
Guys go to Tasti d lite!!!! on 7th between 9th and 10th street
It stopped knowing what it was several years ago. I liked it very much when they first opened, but they very quickly changed their sizes and pricing, then just started morphing into a place that served salads and, eventually, Korean specialties. The writing was on the wall.
Culture has pretty much reinvented froyo in this neighborhood. Everything else out there pales in comparisin.
Tasti Dlite is not frozen yogurt! Isn't it just a frozen dietary dessert or some such nonsense? I haven't had it in years, but, I know back then it most certainly was NOT yogurt! And, yes, love Culture! Used to like YoGo Monster when they first opened, but with Culture so close, I never go there anymore. this place, I didn't like from the beginning.
Tasti d lite is the best frozen yogurt out there and all natural and over 100 flavors how can anyone go wrong. Culter is nasty i rather go to key food and buy dannon 10 for $1 and eat that.
Steven clearly works for Tasti d lite. That stuff is SO NASTY!
All one needs to do is look at the reviews.....5 out of 5 stars for Culture and barely 3 starts for Tasti d lite.
You sound so pathetic trashing other peoples business. Culture was called the best yogurt in THE CITY.
Tasti d lite is garbage and everyone knows it. That's why you are here shilling for it, meanwhile Culture is packed with customers.
CULTURE is so nasty that when i went there last week i almost threw up!!! I had a very bad experience in culture i give that shit hole of a place another 6 months than we will be reading it on Heres park slope that it went OUT OF BUSINESS. lets see how they do in the winter. GOOD LUCK! HAHAHAHAAHAHAH!
I know everyone on my block cant stand culture that sour shit thats so expensive......trust me people i give it another 6 months than you will see a big for rent sign just like oko. TASTI D LITE#1
I will be posting on facebook today for everyone I know to never ever go to Tasti d lite ever again after your insane, rude and FALSE comments here. What a sign of desperation.
LIMESTONE....im a fan of Tasti for 12 years and support my local yogurt shop and im not a fan of your sour garbage thats loaded with sugar!!!!! So do yourself and stop making a fool out of yourself!
I'm going to print this out and tape it to the Tasti d lite store in Park Slope. Your'e FIRED Steven!
Wow! Steven, do you own Tasti Di Lite? because seriously, maybe, maybe they are frozen yogurt now, but, I went there for years when i worked in the city and they called themselves a frozen dessert, whatever that meant!!!
As for Culture being gross and getting you sick, I think you need to chill out! they make the yogurt there themselves fresh every day and the line is out the door most days, even when it is not warm! i don't know what your problem is with Culture, unless, again, you own Tasti DiLite, but, no need to slander them like this over and over again!
it's funny how on one hand you say Culture is sour and on the other hand, yous aw they add sugar to make it sweet, can't even get your story straight, eh? Also, how natural and wonderful can Tasti DiLite be if they have over one hundred flavors, ick?
I just posted a sign in my building (a 36 unit apartment building) to spread the word to protest Tasti d lite and printed some of the comments here by Steven on his slanderous comments. It's too bad for Steven that two of my neighbors are food bloggers. I hope they write a story on how Steven just assured that as many people as possible find out how bad and unethical Tasti d lite is.
Oh, I also put in a comment to go support Culture, but I already know that most of my neighbors are obsessed with Culture.
yep, I was right! it is NOT frozen yogurt, here, check out this link from the official Tasti DiLite website, look at the first question!:

i will call Jenny and Gino Ammirati tomorrow to discuss your behavor.
I just walked by Culture about an hour ago and there were about 10 people inside.
On my way home, walked by Tasti d lite.
Guess how many customers? 0.
I think we know what's up, Steven. Your jig is up.
people bottom line is culture is loaded with sugar that is very bad for you compare the nutritional facts!!!!
steven is right culture is loaded with sugar compared to Tasti d lite
Steven, who are those people you are threatening to complain to about someone on this board? Are we supposed to know them? Has anyone looked at the link I put up about how TastiDiLite is NOT frozen yogurt?
If I'm looking for a dessert, I'm not looking for nutritional facts, I'm looking for taste and high quality ingredients.
Culture wins out on both. Tasti d light tastes metallic, the store is lit with neon lights and there is nothing interesting at all about it. It's a chain (not a successful one I might add, as they have been closing stores).
Culture is a certified dairy and makes a product with organic, fresh ingredients every day. The reviews on Yelp tell the story.
Their fresh yogurt is some of the best I've ever had in this country. I'm Greek so I know yogurt pretty well. I go there at least once a week if not more. I would never, ever go to Tasti d lite again.
oh, and TastiDiLite has 12 grams of sugar per 4 ounces, says so on their website
Hey Steven, would you care to respond to the posts I have put up from TastiDiLite's own website or will we just ignore facts now?
my kids cant stand culture yogurt its sour and tasts awefull..... i know all the schools in the are love tasti and only go to tasti also the variety of flavors are awesome!
