Big News: McDonald's Most Likely Coming to Seventh and Union

UPDATE: Looks like it'll be a Charles Schwab, not McDonald's. Whew!
I hinted yesterday that there was a big chain-related scoop in the works, and here it is: There's a very high probability that 100B Seventh Avenue's next tenant will be McDonald's. I say this without ultimate confirmation because the source was a worker inside the space (as opposed to Corporate, which was unable to comment), but in past experience contractors tend to be trustworthy sources.
The space, which is on Seventh between Union and President (where Kaplan tutoring used to be), is certainly large enough to hold the Golden Arches (it stretches back pretty far). Big chains have traditionally held off on coming to the neighborhood because many storefronts are too small to accommodate them, but that doesn't seem to be the case here.

So the owner Nick Kotsonis is going back to his roots just a bit ... that place more or less was the site of the Purity Diner through the '90's ... thought he wasn't going to put any food-related businesses in that slot - but as we all know, franchise money talks, and talks big in this lousy economy.
Great. Now all these Stepford Parents can watch their stroller rats grow hideously obese over the next five to ten years.
Ugh... do. not. like.
That is beyond GROSS! YUCK!
Who wants a mcdonalds there???
That's horrible.
Seventh Avenue is dying.
This is not correct information. Reliable source heard it is to be Charles Schwab - the investment brokerage who is going in there......Not Mac Do!
Well, since we seem to know who the landlord is, why not just ask him?
Boo.
Reliable source contacted the owner who said it is not MacDonalds - they would never have a food/restaurant in that space. It is the triple A rated investment brokerage Charles Schwab...
As far as I know that landlord was totally opposed to any kind of food in that space.
The contractor may have just said that to get everyone in a tizzy.
And look....it seems to be doing just that....
Let's wait to hear what Kotsonis says. Charles Schwab makes a lot more sense to me, but who knows.
It's Charles Schwab folks.
If it's Schwab, that's a great tenant. First office in Brooklyn I believe? They only open branches in very affluent areas and are a good asset for people to have nearby.
In other news -- the plywood is off one of the storefronts they've been working on on the south side of Flatbush just off Plaza St W. Would appreciate some updated sleuthing on what's going in there!
ilovebrooklyn,
already mentioned here that it's a weight watchers. restaurant coming next door where blockbuster was. no announcement yet on specifics though.
Here are more specifics on all the many changes on North Flatbush....

It's a Charles Schwab? ok
Let's get this changed because brownstoner has already picked up on the McDonalds thing and next thing you know it's going to be all over the food blogs.
seventh ave is an embarrassment these days.
ps,
I'm curious why you say that? Recently that new cheese shop Valley Shepherd Creamery opened on 7th and 3rd street (took the place of a cell phone store) and another branch of Konditori Swedish cafe opened on 7th and 5th. Where La Taqueria was is now becoming a new cafe and a pottery making place which does well in Carroll Gardens. Also that new Greek place, Faros is okay and I like AREA kids for gifts. I also really enjoy Beer Table, Brookvin, Butter Lane cupcakes, Fonda, and I hear great things about Talde opening soon.
What are you looking for on 7th exactly? The neighborhood needs things like dry cleaners, banks, grocery stores, post office, etc and not everything can be cool and hip. That's what 5th is for. Whenever I bring guests to the neighborhood they always comment about how charming and quaint 7th Avenue is so I always find it strange when I hear people complain about it.
Oh and I spend far too much at Tarzian kitchen store!!! Love that place. And the Park Slope fleamarket and I just tried Bareburger last night and had a really good Ostrich burger. The place next door makes a great slice too.
Hmmmm....can't think of what else I like on 7th but I know there are others.
No. No. No. No!
Because the 3 on 4th Ave aren't already enough!?!?
Why?
Thanks, limestone. For some reason I was thinking that slot was where the restaurant was going. I do remember hearing there was a WW in the mix, though.
Have to give a shout out to D'vine Taste on 7th also, since I love that place so much. I also have recently rediscovered Back to the land, which has a pretty great selection of healthy food and body products. And Neergaard on 7th! Great store, although the one on 5th is much larger. I guess us old timers appreciate 7th more than the newcomers who seem to be more interested in bars and trendier stores.
AND ZITO'S!!!!!
how could I forget!!!
A cappucino at Crespella and a meatball parm at Zito's is the perfect lunch!
Sorry, I know. Some of you hate 7th Avenue, but I don't care, I still shop there all the time and like most of it.
