Italian Restaurant Called "Va Beh'" Coming to Dean Street

It looks like an Italian restaurant is in the works on Dean Street, just east of Fifth Avenue, in the space last occupied by Taro Sushi. It'll be called Va Beh' (which I believe is slang for "it's okay" in Italian). The tagline, "Mangiare bene," means "Eat well."

Their website is still under construction, but it says that it will be a paninoteca/ ristorante. Those windows will let in tons of natural light. Stay tuned for more details.

that place used to look TERRIBLE when it was Taro...so run down. what a massive improvement on the facade!

I got a chuckle from the name. It's short for "va bene." You would use it for "okay!" as in "How about lunch tomorrow? Okay!" Not "How was dinner? Eh, okay."

I like how casual it is. How is it hard to remember or pronounce? It's two syllables!

I agree, 552 is clearly not of Italian descent. You may not like it, but it surely isn't hard to pronounce.

Nowhere as easy to pronounce as the place next door - Kulushkat. Seriously.

I passed by the other day and was able to chat with one of the owners- two partners from milan one of whom has already opened some pretty well known restaurants. The place was still being renovated but from what i could see it looked pretty sweet. He said their philosophy is really high quality and authentic but no pretense and not expensive. My girlfriend was able to get a better look inside and said its spotless with a lot of beautidul detailing she felt like she was in Italy. I'm still skeptical though let's see if it lasts
