What's a Brownstone With No Brownstone Look Like?

Like this! 47 Seventh Avenue has been getting a complete overhaul recently, which includes stripping of its entire facade. It's ready for a coat of brownstone, which in this day and age is just Portland cement with some coloring added to it.

Let's hope 47 Seventh Ave. chose the right contractor. It's not as simple as Portland Cement with coloring. Come back in five years and see how it has held up. In this business, you get what you pay for.

Sorry for the basic question, but what is the grey stone exposed now that the facade has been stripped off? I kind of expected to see brick.

@anonymous,
That's the "scratch" coat, actually another layer of cement that's been scratched to give the finish coat a tooth to adhere to. The brick is underneath that.

Yeah... There are many examples of poor Brownstone work in PS. This is the kind of job that needs to be right and if it is you will be long in the grave before it needs a re-do!!

@anonymous,

Thanks for the explanation, that makes perfect sense!
