Caramello, Italian Bakery/Cafe, Coming to Patio Lounge Space

While poking my head into the now-gutted space that was last home to Patio Lounge, on Fifth between Berkeley and Lincoln, I met Nicoletta Grippo, the space's new owner, and she's got some exciting-sounding plans for the storefront.

Grippo, a Vancouver native, will be opening up a cafe and bakery that draws influence from her family's traditional Italian recipes. "Gelato, chocolates, homemade pie, pizzette, sandwiches, and good beer and wine" will be the "order at the counter"-style cafe's primary offerings, she said.

Nicoletta was previously the fourth-generation owner of a gelateria called Dolce Amore back home in Vancouver, but decided to bring her brainchild to Brooklyn to be a part of the foodie movement that's taken hold here in the past couple years. All of Caramello's baked goods will be made in-house, and Grippo is particularly excited about the pies, which will come directly from her family's recipes.

One more intriguing addition to the North Slope foodie scene!
