Open for Business: MetLife Home Loans, 200 Seventh Avenue
Tuesday, September 6, 2024 at 10:11AM
It may not be the most exciting business opening in ages, but still worth reporting: a branch office of MetLife's home loans division has opened at 200 Seventh Avenue, in the ground floor of the building that's owned by artist and renowned set designer Mark Ravitz.
The building, between Second and Third Streets, is one of the neighborhood's more curious ones, its facade decorated with Ravitz's "Drips," its storefront previously home to Ravitz's gallery of art, and its front windows previously displaying some of his designs (including his layouts for Studio 54's infamous Halloween parties).
Ravitz never planned to make the ground floor his permanent exhibition space, but it's a shame that such a soulless storefront would take over the space that was a bookstore before the art gallery. The Drips remain for now, though, and MetLife is using the front windows to entice children to take an interest in mortgages, apparently:

I'm an adult and the promise of a free Snoopy doll is enough to entice me to at least pretend to listen to what they have to say.
