Closed for Business: Thrifty Liquidators, 483 Fifth Avenue
Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at 9:12AM
One of the longtime discount stores that are so ubiquitous on the southern end of Fifth Avenue has closed. This one, Thrifty Liquidators, was between 11th and 12th Streets, and as they'd been having a "Liquidation Sale" for several years now, it was a little surprising to find that this time the axe really did fall.
While these stores, which generally offer everything from clothes to housewares to basic foodstuffs, are a dime a dozen on this end of the avenue, they're quite useful and incredibly inexpensive when compared to the Big Boxes like Target. Thankfully, for the time being, there are about five other similar stores in a five-block radius.

This is bad. We do need places to buy crap.
and I am not being sarcastic. ........
Sometimes you don't want a fancy $15 plastic thing when a $1.99 crappy plastic thing will work fine.
^^True
The best place to buy "crap" is D11 on corner of 5th ave and 9th street. Frankly, it is no big deal that Thrifty Liquidator is closing. just hope they are not replaced with another phone store or bank.
I'm more of a "Save on Fifth" man myself.
That place was a dump. We don't need all these discount stores and that area in particular really needs some classing up.
Save On fifth and D2 are my go to "cheapo" stores. 5th Avenue used to be all discount cheapo stores back in the day, along with a Burger King and an OTB
Save on Fifth isn't that cheap though! The 99c store between 10th/11th is good, but the one at 16th is the best - 99c reading glasses & lots of other finds.
