Closed for Business: Animated Closet, 87 Fifth Avenue

Animated Closet, the funky women's clothing boutique on Fifth Avenue between Park and Prospect, has closed. It was best known for its unique designs, and the owners also designed all of the clothes, which usually veered in the direction of multicolored, flashy, and pretty damn cool-looking. They'd sold clothes in various trade shows and holiday markets before opening up the shop, which was only a couple years old, and developed quite a loyal following. 

The employee I spoke with was unsure of the exact reason for the closure, but told me that they'll be opening up a new showroom in Midtown (location TBD) within a couple months. Their online store will remain up and running, and those looking to get in touch with them (about returns, etc.) can send them an email.

I agree 100% with 'deanstreet'. when i recently saw the sign for 'free umbrella with every purchase' I knew it was the (much delayed) beginning of the end for them.

Animated Closet was my one guilty pleasure. I have several pieces from that store and get tons of compliments every time I wear them, from the gym to the occasional black-tie affair.

Hey animated closet. I saw tons of your stuff at the Salvation Army. That's not a sign of a business that is simply relocating. What were you doing, making donations to deduct the cost of that crappy clothes on your taxes? All the signs of a delusional business owner. Do yourself and your friends and family a favor: End it. Or just do online sales.
