Cyprus Avenue Closed for "Minor Renovations"

Cyprus Avenue, the cozy 2 1/2 year old Irish pub on the corner of Fifth and Bergen, closed on Wednesday for "minor renovations," and the infamous newspaper is covering the windows.

As opposed to, say, 161 Wine Bar, I'm pretty confident that they'll be true to their word. An employee answered the phone when I called yesterday afternoon, and while he was unsure exactly what renovations were in store, he assured me that they would be brief and that the pub wouldn't be closed for too long. A car crashed into the bar back in September, so possibly there's a connection there.

I'm a personal fan of this place; it's one of the only true Irish pubs in the neighborhood, and they have a great happy hour, friendly bartenders, and $1 sliders, along with other quality Irish fare like shepherd's pie and curry chips. The layout is alightly awkward, with a bar that only seats about 5, so hopefully the changes they're making will only be aesthetic. If I'm able to get in touch with the owner I'll be sure to relay whatever details he can provide.

thanks so much for your reporting! I love Cyprus Avenue's Thursday-night music sessions and would be SO sad if the neighborhood lost this place!

I think "minor" is a pretty assuring word here. Pretty sure they'll be back as well.
