Breaking: Dizzy's Diner to Take Over Comida Space

Many thanks to a tipster for letting me know that a sign went up today on the window of the space last occupied by Comida, on Fifth and President, saying that the storefront's next occupant will be the neighborhood's second Dizzy's Diner, the popular brunch spot that's been in business on the corner of Eighth Avenue and Ninth Street since 1998. I've reached out to the owner for comment, and will update when there are more details to report.
Talk about a quick turnover!

Very very good move. They will kill it in that location.
Great news for those in the north end of the slope.
That actually might REALLY work. Those italian eggs that soak up the foccacia squares are to die for.
Awesome to hear. Could use a good diner in the area.
Ummmm. I guess I waited too long to use my Comida dinner for 2 groupon.... now what?
I still think they need to burn some sage in there-this space was a dry cleaner until the owner died I believe he haunts this location or there is some bad mojo. will be glad to have another place to have breakfast.
Dizzy's is still so dirty, don't know how they paid off the DOH. Look at their rating, not making this up.
Look at the previous ratings before their 4! Can't tell you how many times we've asked for "clean" silver wear, plates, glasses, etc... I'm not alone on banning them. Clearly people who go don't value clean restaurants who care about their customers.

The mojo from the dead dry cleaner was so bad it led to tasteless BBQ, overburnt arepas, and overpriced mediocre Mexican.
First of all, Dizzy's is on Eighth Avenue and 9th Street, not 7th ave... Secondly, i've been eating there for YEARS and never had to send anything back for lack of cleanliness, ever... and to boot, their food is excellent. end of story. i wish them lots of luck in their location.
Dizzy's is fantastic. I hear the owner is also a Shaman so he should have no problem expelling the ghosts and goblins that have caused all of the previous restaurants to serve not very good food.
The two locations are, according to Google Maps, 1.0 mile apart.
Unlike a suburban location, which probably could not sustain two diners 1.0 miles apart, these two locations are, essentially, two different neighborhoods. I think it's a good bet they succeed. After all, they're family and hipster friendly, decent food (don't know too many people who shun them because their silverware is occasionally dirty. It's a diner, not Per Se), serve beer/wine and you can get a meal for less than $10.
Oh, and anonymous552, your face is occasionally dirty.
there, saved you the effort.
Dizzy's Diner, very cool! We have only been to their main location twice in all of these years, just because it is "out of the way" of where we usually are and where we usually go to eat. This one is much more in my zone and we will definitely go there.
I've never eaten at Dizzy's so this is not a comment on how clean they are or aren't.
That said, I could never get past how much the name sounds like Disease Diner...
OHMYGOSH!!!! That would make me so happy!!!!!! Maybe also so fat. : )
Ooo, part of me wishes you didn't bring that up, Joe. I can't think of it any other way now.
Signage up at the old Comida location from the Dizzy's people as to an upcoming CB meeting. I'd say that's a pretty big confirmation this is happening.
In response to anonymous 552 - when did you EVER get a meal at dizzy's for under $10.00... i'm sorry, not in this lifetime... this is not a negative statement towards dizzy's, but they are anything but inexpensive... they've got good food, but it isn't cheap...
Just look at the menu. 95% of it is under $10.
Most omlette's are $8, and egg sandwich is under $4 and waffles and french toast are $9 and $10.
Yes it is under $10 to eat there and yes, it is "cheap."
There are about 3 things on the menu over $10 and nothing is more than $12.
Hey, we have a Park Slope where there's a Connecticut Muffin and a Starbucks across the street from each other. The Muff does very well, as it should in this neighborhood ;) BTW, good move by Dizzy's owner. The space at 5th & President is huge and on a hot street.. wish them very well.
This makes me so happy!! We've seen all the different incarnations over the years -- Bibis, Night and Day, Biscuit, Look Out Hill, Comida -- and have always said that Dizzy's would kill in that location. Score one for the North Slope!! Can someone talk Naidre's into moving a location over here too? Please?
Hey Parker, Dizzys is BUSY, not dirty. If you look at their window today there is an A posted from the DOH. Not paid for, one of the waitresses told me they came during a busy brunch on saturday and they passed with flying colors. Can't tell you how many times I've been there to see their staff cleaning. Go Dizzy's! Good move, can't wait!
