Bodega on Fourth and Dean Turning into Halal Restaurant
Monday, January 9, 2012 at 11:21AM
Major work is underway on the southwest corner of Fourth Avenue and Dean Street, where the former "Sandwich Place" Gourmet Deli, a rather run-of-the-mill bodega, is being transformed into a sit-down Halal restaurant.
The space has been entirely gutted, a new glass front has been installed, and a full kitchen is in the process of being built. A worker inside the space told me that the owner will remain the same, and that he just decided on a change of pace.
When it re-opens, the restaurant will serve falafel and other Middle Eastern Halal foods. It'll certainly have some competition on that stretch of the avenue.

Yeah, competition from that alluring "No Pork Chinese Restaurant" on Fourth Ave.
Passed by today. It’s not a Halal restaurant. The signage is like "Crispy Chicken" or something like that. Fried chicken. There you go!
Also, whoever owns the space plays games every few years. One year it is a corner store. Next it is a halal place (it was once). And then the next it's a new corner store. And now it's this.
