What's Up With Kahawa Cafe?

Kahawa Cafe, which opened less than two months ago on the corner of Fifth Avenue and 15th Street, has only been open sporadically since then, to say the least. The fairly run-of-the-mill coffee shop, which has the same owners as the corner deli across the street, served Illy coffee and a standard assortment of pastries and baked goods, and also had free wifi.

Every time I've walked past it in the past few weeks, however, it's been closed, and I've gotten emails from a couple readers confirming that that's no fluke. The phone line has also been "temporarily disconnected." Staff at the corner deli were less than forthcoming with information, and a manager at Der Kommissar next door added that they hadn't been open for a while. One potential issue here is the air conditioning: both of the Yelp reviews note that it was stifling in there, so possibly they're waiting until it gets cooler out to re-open. But in my opinion it doesn't look too promising.
