Open for Business: Bhoomki, 158 Fifth Avenue

A new eco-friendly boutique called Bhoomki opened last week on Fifth Avenue between Degraw and Douglass, in the space last occupied by a real estate office (and before that Scoopz Ice Cream), and it's a charming shop selling high quality, ethically-made clothing.

As described last month, the shop is run by Swati Agrade Pollak, a designer whose desire to create environmentally-conscious clothing led her to create a business where just about all the clothing is designed by her, the brands source locally and employ traditional artisanship, and where only sustainable fabrics are used.

The current autumn collection is a nice mix of reasonably-priced items (predominantly tops and jackets), and there's also some accessories like handmade jewelry from recycled materials. Plans are also in place to roll out items for men and children.
