Is MIX Already Closed for Good?

I thought it was curious last week when MIX, the newest creation of Manhattan restaurateur Spencer Rothchild (and the reboot of his Barrio), closed unexpectedly after only about a month in business on Seventh Avenue and Third Street. There was a chance it was only temporary, though, but that may not be the case. The small plates-themed restaurant was last open on Valentine's Day, and as it hasn't been open since, it appears as if they've really closed for good.

To give you an idea as to why this isn't too shocking, here's one commenter's recap of their Valentine's Day excursion there:

"My wife and I tried this place out on Valentines Day. We got a reservation, which turned out to be unnecessary, as they were only about a quarter full. The service was non-existent. After over 15 minutes without a waiter even coming by to ask us if we wanted a drink we flagged down a bus boy and asked if he could send a waiter over. We waited about 10 more minutes, and we decided to just go elsewhere."

Looks like the staff had completely given up. Add food that, while tasty, was expensive and not blowing anybody away, and it looks like a recipe for disaster.

I've never seen a restaurant open and close in one month. I've reached out to the restaurant's owners and will update if I near back from them.

Closed when I walked by yesterday. And the day before that. And the day before that...

It's amazing that it's just had a renovation. It actually looks WORSE than it did before.

Something has to have gone WAY wrong for someone to give up on a concept in less than a month. WAY wrong. Worse than Bibi's/King of Cupcakes wrong.

hahaha funny ----^

Sad that it's (possibly) closed. That's weird. Looks like that corner is back to being cursed.

I'm so ready for this entire corner to be revitalized. It sucks currently and is shameful given that 3rd is such a beautiful street.

Bring back Carvel and the Skate Shop that was on that corner!

Other than Barrio, Carvel may have been the best use of that corner in the ten years I've lived in the neighborhood. Apologies to Tempo Presto on that.

Ok, now may be the time to open a GAP.
It's crazy to open a restaurant in that space. We need an anchor store on 7th Ave.

It would be a damn shame to see a store take over a spot with an outdoor seating area.

I don't think it's crazy at all to open up an eating establishment in that location. Big space, and nice, outdoor area at a nice intersection.

Frankly, I can't understand why they tinkered with Barrio. It wasn't lining them out the door, but there were a reasonable number of people there every day.

Here's an idea....ready? Expand Culture Yogurt to that location. BOOM.

Forget Carvel (though, I did really like that Carvel and thought it did well, wonder why it closed?).

Bring back Herzog's!!! the best deli ever ever ever!! It's been a billion years and I still miss that place

Herzog's was there for over 50 years. Some curse!

After Herzog's, it was downhill, remember the pizza place that had a mini fire once?

And, it wouldn't be bad to put a regular store there, that wasn't always an out door seating space establishment. It would just be nice to have something good in that spot that would last.

Again, bring back Herzog's!

Park Slope does not need a Gap; much of what's traditionally made the neighborhood attractive is a plethora of unique stores and restaurants, not outposts of stores that can be found in any mall . So saying, I too went to Mix on Valentine's Day. The food was quite good, when we got it. We ordered six small plates, and at once point, waited 45 minutes between courses. We had been seated in the "outdoor" section, and it was a rainy night. M coat was on the back of my chair when I noticed that my back felt wet. When I stood up to see why and discovered that the plastic wall had leaked and my coat was soaked through, I gave an involuntary yelp; it was only then that someone noticed us and the manager came and moved us. Even so, not so much as a drink on the house. People eat out not just for for food, but for the entire experience, especially on Valentine's Day. I've eaten at some f the best restaurants in the country, and no food could make up for such rude and dismissive service.
