Since closing down back in June of last year, the Irish pub Harry Boland's, with its classic facade, comfortable atmosphere, and great dartboard, has sat silent. It was a sad sight for sure, but now it appears as if the bar, on Ninth Street just west of Fifth Avenue, will be opening its doors to the neighborhood again after all.
Boland's, which was shut down by the city for nonpayment of taxes, has been sold lock, stock, and barrel to the owners of popular local bars Bar Great Harry (in Carroll Gardens) and Mission Dolores (on Fourth Avenue). According to Brownstoner, "the owners plan to serve beer from small American breweries as well as some rare German and Belgian beers. There will be a small food menu that will have similar offerings as the other two bars." No word on what renovations they'll be making, or whether they'll be keeping the name, though.
Very glad to learn that they'll be re-opening. That facade would not have served any other types of businesses well.
