Reel Life South to Close Next Thursday
Thursday, March 22, 2012 at 10:35AM
One of the neighborhood's last video stores, Reel Life South (on Eighth Avenue between 11th and 12th Streets), will be shutting down for good next Thursday, March 29th. There's a fire sale on until then, as they try to sell off as much merchandise as possible.
Earlier this week, this message appeared on the store's Facebook page:

Not shocking at all that they are closing, I'm shocked that the video store on 7th Avenue near 9th Street is still open and seems to do business!
I'm always mystified that anyone uses video stores anymore. It's like a weird window into another time.
I was in there yesterday renting a copy of Mallrats and the person behind the counter claimed the next occupant was going to be a 24 hour car service.
Why wouldn't someone use a video store, anon? The Netflix model doesn't necessarily work for everyone, you can stream every film out there, people have esoteric tastes, and people often want to do things like cram an entire season's of a show into a weekend.
I love Get Reel and hope it sticks around forever.
