"Seven Bar" Coming to City Casuals Space on Seventh
Monday, March 5, 2012 at 12:24PM
It's been a year since City Casuals, the nearly 40-year old "working woman's store" shuttered on Seventh Avenue between Third and Fourth Streets, but now it appears as if the space is about to be transformed into the first proper bar to open on Seventh Avenue north of Ninth Street in many years.
The establishment will be called Seven Bar, according to permits, and the space is tiny, less than 800 square feet. Brownstoner was at the CB6 meeting last week where their liquor license was approved, and it looks like the owners plan on serving "low cal" food, prepared in advance and reheated using a convection oven due to the lack of gas lines. The space is currently being renovated, and it'll be open within six months.

I think they need to rethink advertising low cal and reheated food. NOTHING about that sounds appealing. It makes it sound as though the people owning this are total amateurs.
Agree 100% with Sterling. Do you really want to go into a bar and eat reheated food? I also think the location is ill-suited for a bar. That stretch of Seventh Ave. is deadsville. Although I have expressed that I think there are too many bars in Park Slope (for the number of customers), a new bar with a decent concept or one that serves unique food or drink would probably do well.
Although Sotto Voce is not high on my list of high-quality Italian restaurants in Park Slope, it is what it is and perhaps the bar could , by virtue of its proximity, develop a relationship that would deliver (I don't know how...) small plates freshly made in their kitchen, to bar patrons.
A very nice wine bar could work, but this is sounding like a really amateur operation. First of all, why is it taking 6 months? Secondly, why did you select this location (terrible for a bar), thirdly as I already stated the low cal reheated food thing sounds disgusting. You know me, I'm usually optimistic, but this sounds like the endeavor is a failure before it even starts.
Better yet, if they are already locked into this spot, just don't talk about the food. If the bar is nice, and the drinks and strong, put out some popcorn and be done with it. I'd rather hear about NO food than reheated low cal food.
You have to wonder why someone would decide to open a bar in this space. I can think of 5 other vacant storefronts on 7th Avenue that would have been better for a bar.
Is this going to be a real, actual bar??? there used to be so many on 7th Avenue years ago, but no more. And, no, a bar inside a restaurant is not a real bar to me. That is a restaurant bar, it's different.
Don't mess with me here, a real actual bar??
Amazing news!!! I woke up this morning and actually wondered when someone would open a small bar that serves reheated low-cal food on 7th avenue. My dreams have now been answered.
I'll have the Bourbon Manhattan but, please, keep the food lo-cal. Trying to watch my figure.
Center Slope 7th is just an odd spot for a bar. You could open a third Weather Up and it would somehow seem wrong.
Opened in six months, closed in seven months.
So, is everyone down on this place because of the reheated food? yeah, that's messed up, if it's gonna be a bar, be a bar, period! No food, especially not reheated. But, I think a bar on 7th Avenue could do ok.
We desperately need a bar (not a glass of wine at Cocoa Bar) in the Center Slope! I for one welcome our new overlords!
OK the food sounds gross (maybe only do cold plates?) but a bar is needed so badly in center slope I could care less about food. Please don't suck.
