A new bagel shop opened up today in the space that was last occupied by Aji Bar & Lounge, on Ninth Street between Fourth and Fifth Avenues, right next to the McDonald's.
It's a fairly straight-ahead, no-frills bagel and sandwich shop, a spot to grab some morning coffee before hopping on the subway. Not sure if the bagels are baked on-premises, but I hear from Twitter tipster @PilarToons that they were fresh enough that no toasting was required. Wraps, breakfast items like egg and cheese sandwiches, Boar's Head cold cuts, and a selection of pastries are on offer as well, along with a few varieties coffee from Kobricks. Hot food will be part of an expanded menu that's still in the works.
The large space is bright and airy, and a big back yard will open within a couple weeks. There's no liquor license (I guess the "pub" part of their name is just an artistic flourish), but the owners haven't ruled out pursuing one at some point in the future.
