A Peek Inside the New Key Food, Opening Soon on Fifth

Signage is up, the shelves are being stocked, and it looks like the new franchise of Key Food on the corner of Fifth Avenue and 12th Street is nearly ready to open.

Like the one up on Flatbush, this one is a Jo, Brian, and Joseph's Key Food, apparently the names of the franchise owners. The space, which was last home to an OTB parlor, looks a lot bigger from the inside than it does from the outside. An owner told me that it will have a "gourmet" twist a while back, so we'll see if the merchandise is any different from your average supermarket.

I'm sure there will be as much of a "gourmet twist" as there is at their Flatbush location.

by gourmet twist, they usually mean "yes, we have pickles that cost upwards of $8." i'm not complaining (i love $8 pickles) but some of the bodegas around here have a "gourmet twist" too so i wouldn't be expecting bklyn larder style gourmet over here.

Don't much care about gourmet (isn't there plenty here already?) - just some reasonably priced staples & somewhat fresh fruit & veg would be useful.
