Open for Business: Park Slope Academy of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, 518 Fifth Avenue

After a series of delays and stop-work orders, the Park Slope Academy of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu opened to the neighborhood on Saturday with a blowout celebration.

The academy is located in the building that was last home to Tower Electronics, on the corner of Fifth Avenue and 13th Street. The folks behind it, Professors Marc Adami and Steven Crocilla along with Program Director Brian Medici, did a good job of building out the space, which certainly makes its presence known. They offer programs for kids and adults of all ages and experience levels, and are also offering seminars on women's personal safety, child abduction, bullying, and retail loss prevention.

PSABJJ, 518 Fifth Avenue Brooklyn NY 11215. 718-788-6990.

Oh, those were the days. Children's cartoons unashamedly depicting racial and cultural stereotypes....

The schools actually been open for seven weeks, I began in their beginner class and am in the process of moving into the more advanced level. The party was fun with some food and music.

First I learn to grapple, then I improve my ground & pound, and finally I master the art of submissions. "Then what," you ask? Then I run for mayor of Park Slope and all who oppose me shall be choked out. And then, once I'm mayor, I spend my days choking out my penis. Vote Diddles 2012!

I dunno if this guy trains here ^^^^^^^^, but i came by and took a trial class in May. The students were all nice and welcomed me. The only issue I had was they wanted me to train in a beginner class for about six months. I am going away in the fall and can't continue, but the school was big and smeled good, students, and staff all were good people.
Maybe when i get back from New Paltz in 2013 I'll continue there
