Open for Business: Brooklyn Crepe and Juice, 169 Fifth Avenue

The second outpost of popular Flatbush Avenue crepe stand Brooklyn Crepe and Juice soft opened over the weekend in the space last occupied by Lugo Photography, on Fifth between Lincoln and Berkeley.

Owner Evan Franca has expanded his eatery into a small but well-designed space in the North Slope, which will be closed today but back open for good tomorrow morning. There's a solid menu of sweet and savory crepes, made-to-order with fillings like prosciutto, mozzarella, tomato, and pesto; eggs, brie, peppers, and mushrooms; and on the sweet side there's banana and Nutella; fresh fruit; and the Bed-Stuy, which comes loaded with peanut butter, banana, honey, cinnamon, and pecans. Crepes can also be customized to order, and can me made vegan/gluten free upon request.

There's also a solid selection of salads tossed with housemade dressing, and plenty of smoothie and fresh-pressed juice options with "boosters" including spirulina and bee pollen, and additional add-ins like wheatgrass and ginger. They also can customize a juice cleanse for you from 1-30 days.

There are a few tables and a small counter by the front window, but the small space makes takeout the best option.

Brooklyn Crepe and Juice, 169 Fifth Avenue Brooklyn NY 11217. 718-622-2849.

They deserve a bigger location. They've really done a ton to upgrade their little Flatbush nook in recent years. Grab-n-go type of places on 5th really are a great idea we need more of.
