Leaf and Bean to Re-Open on Lincoln Place

Some good news coming over the tip line this afternoon: Leaf and Bean, the charming coffee and tea shop that closed back in January after nearly 40 years on Seventh between Union and Berkeley, will be re-opening soon, very close to the original location.

Owners Karen Hue and Vikki Cook vowed that the shop, which they inherited after original owner Alan Mehlberg retired in 2003, would be back, and now it's very much looking like it will be. A tipster ran into Karen this morning, who informed her that they'd just signed a lease to take over one of the small storefronts on Lincoln Place, just east of Seventh Avenue.

If I had to guess, I would say that they'll be moving into the space last occupied by Fashion East (top right), which closed back in February 2011 and has been vacant since. It's a small, off-the-beaten-path location, but it's great to see that this beloved shop (and its equally beloved proprietors) will once again have a home in the neighborhood.

Off the beaten path location where nothing ever tends to succeed, but enough of a name that their crowd *should* follow them to the new location. Never really had a use for this place, but I wish them well with V2.0.

I used to really enjoy this place for coffee beans; until I noticed their cat rubbing itself all over the bag as the ladies were filling them w/ beans w/out them even trying to make it stop.

Awful location. Who goes to 7th avenue anymore, letting alone just off 7th avenue. I have seen so many businesses come and go at those spots, perhaps this place has a following to make it last?

7th Avenue is so packed, you can barely walk.

Lots of people still go to 7th Avenue, while I do a lot of shopping on 5th, there are still some stores on 7th Avenue that I frequent. And, whenever I walk down 7th Avenue on a weekend, the sidewalks are jam packed!

And, yes, a side street is not an ideal location, but, they do have a name and people will follow them there. I loved that shop, I will seek them out.

I loved Leaf & Bean from when they started on Montague Street. I would go there, NO problem :)
