Plywood Up at NY Kids Club/ Southpaw Space
Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at 2:26PM It's been nearly five months since music venue Southpaw closed up shop on Fifth Avenue between St. Johns and Sterling, and (legal) construction has finally begun in the space, which will next be home to after-school center NY Kids Club.
Back in February a rep from the Kids Club, which has seven other locations citywide, told me that this new location will be the largest, and is scheduled to open in September if all goes to plan. While workers began gutting the space right after Southpaw closed, they were hit with a Stop-Work-Order, which has obviously since been resolved. Plywood is now up, meaning that the facade is getting a complete reconstruction. All traces of the word "Southpaw" have also been cut out of the awning.

interestingly, the plywood looks more aesthetically appealing than the old southpaw exterior did.
Really strange choice, though. Unless it's going to be a hardware store or something. I hope they paint it, at the very least. Also that door looks very small for normal sized folk.
