La Dolce Cafe & Bakehouse Gets Signage on Fifth

The bakery that's been in the works on the corner of Fifth Avenue and Tenth Street (in the space last occupied by Lily's Gift Shop) has gotten some signage.

The sign, complete with a giant layer cake, tells us just about everything we need to know about thebusiness that's soon to open inside the space. Gelato, espresso, salads, sandwiches, biscotti, and other baked goods will be available (including cannoli, according to owner Keith), and just about everything will be made in-house.

Great good luck to this new business! They have an excellent location and if the cakes and food are really good they can develop a following. There are other Bakeries/Cafes opening on 5th Ave but customers are pretty loyal to one place or another if it becomes their favorite.

Like bars and nail salons, bakeries are becoming ubiquitous on Fifth Ave.
Seems to me that we've nearly reached saturation point.
Anyway, I am SOOOO excited. I cannot wait to try this place. I am definitely going to go here before I go to every bar in the neighborhood.

hope the gelato and cannoli are good

Ubiquitous? How many good bakeries are there on Fifth Ave? Absolutely none! As of right now Caramello has little in the way of pastries and Trois Pommes is a joke. The only respectable bakeries Park Slope has are Colson and Almondine.

On 5th ave, in the South half of the neighborhood:
5th street: Du Jour (soon)
10th street: La Dolce
16th street: Sweet Treasures
18th street: La Boulangerie Lopez
21st street: Girasol

Brooklyn Bread on 6th street just went out of business.

Again, I said "good" bakeries....

The people at Du Jour have worked at Morimoto, Gordon Ramsay at the London, The Russian Tea Room, Dovetail, Buddakan, etc. They also work with our local demigod, Dale Talde. I bet that place won't suck.

Sweet Treasures on 16th is really good. Their canolis are great. Their cookies are very good.

La Boulangerie Lopez is also really good. Great bread, super-friendly place, very solid baked goods.

Not sure what you're looking for in a bakery, but these places deliver.

You'll laugh, how about something on the order of Bouchon Bakery. Is that too upscale for PS?

Dont mess with Boulangerie Lopex- theyre the nicest folks youll ever meet and their 7 grain bread is the best anywhere.

Sweet treasure's bakery happens to have some really tasty treats. When I went into the bakery someone pleasantly helped me, the aroma in the bakery smelt like fresh baked goods. Which made me smile because the smell is just as important as taste for me, love it when my senses are woken up. I ordered a cheesecake ( light, creamy and freaken delicious ), brownie (holy crap amazing, perfect for chocolate people) and a loaf of their well known prosciutto bread ( that bread is a meal on its own, there are no words or maybe there is tasty!) I think this place is a hidden gem and reasonably priced which is unusual for such great tasting bakery. One more thing they have seating what's not to love?

You are right Rose and definately a delight to the neighborhood. I was in there today and they changed things around it looks great. They now have gelato, coffee and cappuccino bar and opening up a sandwich section too. Can't wait to try it all. I love to have a home style place to go to.
