Padrino's Pizza Out, Tommy's Famous Cheesesteaks In on Fifth

It's been less than three months since a new pizzeria, Padrino's, opened on Fifth Avenue just north of Ninth Street, in the space last occupied by Mamco Electronics. The no-frills pizza joint was beginning to get a reputation as one of the better pizza options in the area, but as soon as it opened, it closed down. Now there's new signage on the storefront, indicating that the space's next tenant will be called Tommy's Famous Cheesesteaks and Pizza.

Most signs point towards ownership being the same, but the new menu will more likely be a bit more eclectic. Either way, it looks like this part of the Slope is about to get one more fast food option.

The space was completely gutted. Why would the owner do that?

Tommy's Famous Cheesesteak? How do you define fame?

I used to hear all about Tommy's cheesesteaks when I was growing up in a flyover state. They're very famous ;-)

I shouldn't be reading these around dinner time! It's just making me hungry because they both sound delicious. :)

I remember speaking to one of the guys(I think his name is Vinny, but I'm not too sure) there about it before they closed, so I assume they're the same owners. He mentioned the cheesesteaks coming, but I'm not sure if he said, "yeah, we're gonna have cheesesteaks", or "a cheesesteak place is coming". Hopefully the former, as those guys were cool as fuck. I just wish they would hurry this shit up.

This place still isn't open. Any insight?

@CB, I read somewhere that they were supposed to open late April, but you know how these estimates are. I walk by every few days and see progress, so it should be sometime this month. They're also hiring, so that's a good sign

@CB, they opened today. The original owner is still there
