Open for Business: Just Salad, 252 Seventh Avenue

Just Salad has officially opened for business on the corner of Seventh Avenue and Fifth Street, in the space last occupied by the ill-conceived and ill-fated Parkslope Eatery.

It's technically in soft-open mode until Saturday the 23rd, when special promotions like 2-for-1 salads and giveaways will ring in the Grand Opening. It's a well-designed space, certainly planned with efficiency in mind, and certainly seems well-staffed as well.

Anyone who's been to any of those sprawling multi-purpose Midtown lunch spots will know the drill. When it's your turn you choose from a wide variety of lettuces, add-ons, fruits, nuts, meats, and dressings, then watch as the whole mess gets chopped up and blended together. There a few differences from your standard salad bar, though; there are plenty of pre-designed salads you can choose from, salads can also be turned into a wrap, and if you re-use your bowl (preferably washed before you bring it back) you get a couple free toppings.

While salads are obviously the main focus here, there are a couple other offerings as well. Fresh smoothies and yogurts are also available, along with accompaniments like chips and cookies.

And while the lunch rush will certainly be prime time, the owners realize that plenty of people work outside of the neighborhood and are looking for something to pick up on their way home. For that reason they'll be open until 10 PM.

There are salad places like this in Manhattan where you can get a lot more toppings included in the basic price-but it really doesnt matter-this place is going to clean up.

Seriously JBob, there are lots of things you can get in the city cheaper or more of than around here, so what? People have been wanting a salad place in the hood for ages, now we have one. Let's be happy about something!

I can';t wait to try them, plus, if you get one of their bowls, I believe you get extra toppings. Looking forward to it

Regarding above references to price - I eat at Chop't in Manhattan a lot. Just Salad's prices are almost exactly the same - and they have better toppings and a larger selection of lettuce.
