There aren't too many lots up for grabs in the North Slope, but the building on the plot of land right behind the townhouse on the northwest corner of Sixth Avenue and Park Place, between 5th and 6th Avenue, has been demolished, and construction will soon begin on a four five-story townhouses on the site.
The 80x100 foot lot was sold to an unnamed buyer by Massey-Knakal in June 2012 for $5,750,000 cash, and they're planning on building a five-story, 48 feet wide, 17-unit building on the site, which will be divided into four townhouses. The 16,100 buildable square feet cost $357 per square foot, and the buildings will have no front yard and a 330-foot rear yard. According to Brownstoner, four townhouses will be built on the site. "This site provided a rare opportunity to build townhouses in Park Slope," Massey-Knakal sales director Steven Palmese said in a release.
The two-story building on the site was an old one, set at least 30 feet back from the street, and appeared to belong to St. Augustine's Church, with a sign on it reading "Father Dempsey Center." It most likely traced its roots back longer than most others on the block, to the oldest days of the neighborhood. Most of the space around it was used for parking, and at least four trees were also removed during the demolition.

The church used to host a woman's shelter for battered women and several support groups. Not to mention the countless Sunday school classes that took place there. It will be missed.
Looks like the church made 6 million bucks so hopefully they can use the proceeds to continue helping in the way they were with even more resources now.
