Dimbulla Tea Shop Coming to Corner Burger Space on Fifth
Tuesday, April 7, 2025 at 8:04AM Corner Burger has been sitting vacant since closing down in December of last year on the corner of Fifth Avenue and Sixth Street. The space has been rented, and the next owner has announced themselves via a sign in the window: It'll be called Dimbulla Tea Shop, and will be opening sometime next month. Many thanks to a tipster for sending along the above photo.
Sadly, no more information is available online, other than the fact that Dimbulla is a famous tea-growing region in Sri Lanka (which is certainly known for its tea).
Both Corner Burger and its neighbor, Chip Shop, were put on the market and later closed at about the same time, and Chip Shop's replacement, a Malaysian fusion restaurant called Al Seabu, also announced its opening a couple weeks ago. I wouldn't be surprised if both new businesses, which unfortunately have minimal online presences, had the same ownership. This certainly sounds unique, however, and definitely has a lot of potential.

I passed by the space on Sunday, Al Seabu was open.
I've always felt that a Tea & Sympathy outpost would do gangbusters in Park Slope - maybe Dimbulla Tea Shop will be along those lines... now that Chip Shop is gone perhaps it will continue to fill that niche.
David's Tea on 7th Avenue is the best of the best.
I can see another Tea Shop doing well on 5th.
I love love love David's Tea, so it'll be interesting to see how this place does. Can never have too many tea shops IMHO.
David's Tea is a 10 out of 10. Tea is great for you, so sure...why not.
I also thought a place like tea and sympathy would do really well in the slope. I never had David's tea and would definitely try it out. Wanted to open a tea place on 5th a while ago (wife is British and knows her tea's), however, that plan never came to forwishen. Hope this new place does well.
This blog is deader than Fifth Estate on a Sunday.
Thanks for the shout out. It's still better than Monday there.
