Cafe/ Sandwich Shop Coming to Boing Boing Space on Sixth

It's been nearly a year since Boing Boing, the maternity shop on the corner of Sixth Avenue and Union Street, shut down after nearly 20 years in business. The next tenant has been lined up, and construction has begun inside the space. When I ducked my head in and asked what was in the works, a man who identified himself as the owner told me that a deli is on its way.
I asked him for further details ("deli" can mean everything from delicatessen to bodega, after all), he told me that he'd be serving coffee, sandwiches, salads, and other simple fare, and the ample front yard would have outdoor seating. Those were all the details he was willing to part with at the time.
This corner gets a ton of foot traffic, but is still off the beaten path enough to make it an ideal spot to sit outside and enjoy a light lunch. Construction is continuing along at a brisk pace, so it'll be interesting to see the finished product.

More seriously, that's a wonderful for a cafe (actually a bit large, given the likely rent). I wish the new business success. I also hope they have more savvy than the owners of several new businesses that have recently opened not too many blocks from that location.

Good spot to sell snacks/coffee to people waiting for brunch at Rosewater.
Always thought this would be a good location for a cafe, especially with the outside area available for seating. Reminds me when I was in college, hanging out at coffeehouses, smoking cigarettes and drinking coffee all night not doing schoolwork........Now I don't smoke or drink coffee past 3pm, but I'll still come here to drink some herbal tea and read a book (and sit outside)
When someone says deli nowadays they likely mean a typical corner store that sells everything from gum to sandwiches. Not a good look for the area if that's the case.
