Signage Up at Artichoke Pizza, Coming Soon to Fifth

There was much rejoicing when it was announced that mini-chain Artichoke Pizza would be opening a location on Fifth Avenue between St. Marks and Bergen (in the space last occupied by prepared foods shop Luscious Foods), and now the pizzeria looks like it's getting closer to opening.

Signage has gone up at the storefront that's essentially identical to that of its other locations, also revealing that (as expected) there'll be plenty of beer. The menu will most likely be similar to that of its other locations as well, with unique pies with toppings including their cult favorite flagship artichoke pie (artichoke hearts, spinach, cream sauce, and cheese), crab, burnt anchovy, and twice-baked Sicilian. "Not Pizza" items include a stuffed artichoke, meatballs and ricotta, and homemade garlic breadsticks.

And, Montrose bar on the corner of Bergen and 5th has been closed with a sign from the Department of Health saying operating without a permit or some such phrasing.

Are these going to be GMO free pizzas? I'm on a huge natural food kick and my life has improved in so many ways. Anyone out there want to help me organize a rally to promote the labeling and (maybe) banning of non-GMO food?

The owners of Artichoke are pretty fast and loose with the brand. There's a line of Artichoke Basile frozen pizzas that are made out near Buffalo and have no connection with the storefront(s) aside from a licensing agreement.

Montrose still closed as of Monday evening. Nothing on the door, but no posters or anything on the windows anymore.

Artichoke pizza? I love artichokes and I love pizza. This could be the best thing that was invented. Haha. Gotta try that place once it's open.

Tried it the other night. Maybe my expectations were too high, but it was not good pizza. Crust way too thick and dense. Kind of goopy over all - for lack of a better word. A fresh pie from South BK Pizza is much better. ymmv
