Surfish Bistro Opening Gowanus Location

It's been more than four years since Surfish Peruvian Bistro opened on Fifth Avenue between Fourth and Fifth Streets, and now the successful restaurant is opening up a second location, on the corner of Third Avenue and 14th Street. Many thanks to a tipster for sending the above photo; the restaurant also posted a photo of the new space on Facebook.

The small restaurant, which is run by Chopped winner chef Miguel Aguilar, has remained somewhat under the radar but is quite popular and has been well-reviewed. The menu includes a wide variety of ceviche, tapas, and specialties like paella, pork adobado, and lomo saltado.

According to the Facebook post, the new location will be opening in November, and will be "bigger and better."

When I want Peruvian food I just go to downtown Paterson, NJ. Everyone knows that "Little Lima" has the best Peruvian food. Better yet, roundtrip flights to Lima from JFK are just $600 now. Nothing beats the real thing.

Has the restaurant stopped showing the chef's Chopped episode on constant loop?

I've been to Surfish lots of times, and I've never noticed them playing that Chopped episode. On the other hand, I also never sit inside because that patio is so beautiful, so maybe I just haven't been near the TV long enough to notice.

One of my favorite spots in the neighborhood since it opened and they service is good to boot. This is one of our favorite spots in the area to take visiting guests. Having a location where it's easier to go with a bigger group sounds good to me. I just hope they don't close this location.

I wonder if anyone's ever surfed and fished at the same time. Miguel could do it. I know it.

Felton, it's a Peruvian restaurant. "Sur" means south in Spanish. Has nothing to do with surfing.

Actually, I think you're wrong. I read somewhere that his two favorite things are surfing and fishing, so he combined the words.

Miguel is a champion surfer; there are photos of him surfing all over the restaurant.
