The Seventh Avenue outpost of Galaxy Comics, on the second floor of 123 Seventh Avenue (between President and Caroll Streets) will be closing by the end of March. There's a For Sale sign in the window, and manager Robin Buckwalter, who can almost always be found behind the store's front desk, confirmed that they're on their way out, even though the original Fifth Avenue location (between Eighth and Ninth Streets) will remain open.
There's a sale underway; lots of comics are 50% off, statues are 25% off, certain collectibles are 50% off, and tee-shirts are buy one, get one free.

I'm conflicted about this. I live very close, and like comics, but man, these guys had it coming!
Months ago, I went in looking for a new comic a few days after its release on a Wednesday--they were sold out (fine, it happens) but the guy actually dismissed my inquiry and told me "it pays to be early..."
No follow-up, either... no offer to order things, hold future copies or anything. It's like saying "you missed your chance, better head over to Bergen Street."
I wanted to explain that it would've literally paid him to keep a good stock and not get just enough copies to sell things the day they come out, but it looks like they're learning that the hard way.
the space has been for rent for 3500 a month for a few weeks now.
3500?!! That's a lot of Comic books.. GEEZ!!
They must have some illicit operations in the back in order to cover that overhead.
Whatever. Bergen Comics is much better anyway.
Just schlopin:
Because the rent is now 3500 doesn't mean that's what the comic store was paying. 3500 is insanely cheap. Do you know that the 1/2 of Dvine Taste now for rent is asking 12K and Noella Brew Bar (guess they are going under too?) is for rent for 8500 a month? That's what's killing 7th Ave, these ridiculous Manhattan priced rents. Who can afford 12K a month unless it's a big national chain? It's time to do something. The block of 7th between Berkeley and Union has been hit hard, YOGO monster is empty, the space next door and Plaza cleaners. All empty. You can thank the greedy bastards at Berman Realty for keeping these spaces open for months and months without lowering rent or even doing a good job of trying to find tenants. They are THE WORST
Between their fifth ave store , Bergen comics and that comic book store on 7th in theteens somewhere thats already the same amount of comic book stores in PS asbookstores- with the addition of the new bookstore that opened on 8th ave
Who shops on 8th Avenue???
No one. Jbob is obsessed with that new powerhouse book store that only carries kids books.
I'll have to rush over there and snatch up a lot of comics, and have a lot less sex!
Do they still publish Fat Freddie's Cat? That shit was hilarious. Remember the time it shit in Freddie's stereo headphones?
Well thats just silly of course they sell adult books-though their children's selection is enviable
Since their havin' a sale, we should buy a whole bunch of comics and make a Comic book slip/Slide on the floor.... (Get a running start)
The Landing's gonna hurt though.
I download my comics onto my 64 gig IPad....the plus 4G version. You're all still reading "Archie" and shit.
@ Slope warz - It's not the SAME...
Anyone knows that REAL comics are the ones you hold in your hand.
You'll be lucky to get any re-sale value from a downloadable copy....
Just sayin......
