Beauty Bar Makes it Official on Fifth Avenue
Friday, January 20, 2025 at 1:08PM
When Ozzie's Coffee, on Fifth Avenue and Garfield Place, closed "for three to four weeks" back in October, rumors began to swirl that half of the space would turn into an outpost of Beauty Bar, the Manhattan based chain of bar/salon hybrids. That rumor was confirmed by a barista at Ozzie's (which has since reopened as Kos Kaffe), and now it's been made official by Beauty Bar brass, who have affixed a "Coming Soon" logo to the front window.
Construction has been coming along nicely at the self-described "hipster chain," which has outposts in San Francisco, Hollywood, Las Vegas, Austin, Brooklyn, Portland, Chicago, Denver and Dallas (the original opened inside an actual former salon on East 14th Street back in 1995). Patrons can sip flirtinis while getting their nails done (there's even a $10 Martinis and Manicures Happy Hour every day), and each outpost is decked out like a 50s style hair salon, complete with the chairs that have the big hair dryers on them (not sure what they're actually called). Not exactly my scene, but it's very popular with the Bachelorette Party set, from what I hear.

Beauty bar isn't really how you describe it. The one on 14th has men, women, certainly hipsters, etc. It's not as theme-y as you describe. It's actually a fun place. Or was, many years ago when I went. The decor of these places is just awesome, if you like that vintage vibe.
Beauty bar is garbage with a capital G... it wont last!
It won't last? That's absurd. They have a number of locations throughout the U.S. which they do EXTENSIVE research for and have never closed a location. It will do extremely well with the Park Slope crowd.
You will see... I give it 1 year!
BB on 14th Street is just a good dive bar and i've NEVER seen a bachelorette party there. Again, just that one location but still.. this isn't an entirely accurate portrayal.
Deanstreet..... you a fool!!! you will see how quick they go out of business!
Mick,
I don't take bets praying for the demise of new area businesses.
BTW, you are so wrong. It will probably be the highest grossing beauty Bar in the chain by next year. Just like everyone said the Babeland in Park Slope would tank, it now sells more sex toys than ANY of the other Babelands, including the one on the Lower East Side of Manhattan.
Can you make your point without calling someone a fool? You're no better than that "psbrooklyn" character that goes around calling everyone names and then having to get their comments deleted.
We will see my friend!
deanstreet in all due respect you have been getting on my nerves lately with you stupid comment....you think you know everyhting? well you DONT!!!!
Can we try keeping this civil? I'll admit I've never been to a Beauty Bar, so we'll just have to see how it turns out. I'll be one of their first customers, but I think I'll forgo the manicure.

HPS, I think someone's posting under poor Mick's name - probably the same keyboard commando that showed up on the frozen yogurt story.
Here's Park Slope, you gonna get a pedi instead? LOL
I'll admit, I'm curious. It's such a weird concept. A manicure with a shot of jack and pickle back, please.
The mani portion of BB on 14th Street is like two seats on the left hand side of the bar. The rest of it the joint is pure dive bar (in the best sense) a la Great Lakes. I don't know how they're going to set this one up obviously but I doubt it'll be as in your face as something like the Korova Milk Bar. Could be wrong though! :)
So.....this will be confusing to understand, but the guy above posting by the name "Mick?" That's not the person who was actually using that screenname prior to today, which is me. Whoever this is, they can frankly have the screenname. I'll just move on to something else. Have fun, jackass.
For what it's worth, I think Beauty Bar will do just fine.
As a female in the 25-35 range I look forward to martinis and manicures, or perhaps a pink lady and a pedicure.
Also, seeing as my age group makes up a large portion of Park Slopers, I think Beauty Bar will do okay.
