Brooklyn Central Pizza Coming to Pete's Pizzeria Space

A couple weeks ago I first brought you word that a new pizza place was in the works in the space that was formerly home to Pete's, on Fifth between First and Second Streets. Today Zagat is able to flesh out the story a little bit: It'll be called Brooklyn Central, and it comes from Matthew Hyland and Roberto Patriarca, who met while working at Sottocasa in Boerum Hill.

The new restaurant will serve wood-fired Neapolitan-style pies as well as charcuterie made in-house. It will seat 45, and all ingredients will be sourced as locally as possible, with many coming from Brooklyn. Local wines will also be on tap.

Construction is well underway (the space has been completely gutted and will be remodeled), and they're shooting for an October opening.

A Sottocasa in PS is a nice addition.

Local wines? Does that mean they'll be buying the wine Salvatore makes in his basement in Bensonhurst? Not sure I really want to be drinking "local" wine. Maybe North Fork of LI, maybe Finger Lakes, but I'd prefer Tuscany, Umbria, Sardinia, Santa Ynez...

Sal in Bensonhurst makes good wines so don't get all snotty about it.

It should also be noted that the chef is from Keste.

We clearly need excellent pizza. We've got good pizza, but not excellent (except Toby's and Franny's...there, I did it, opened the Pandora's Box of pizza arguments).

There are some PHENOMENAL Long Island wines.. including some made with Italian varietals... Yes, Tuscany, Umbria, & Piedmonte are great wine regions, but let's be open minded!
