A Look Inside The New Franny's, Opening Soon

It was almost exactly a year ago when word first got out that Franny's, widely regarded as one of the best pizza-centric restaurants in the city, would be moving out of its current digs on Flatbush near Sixth Avenue and heading uphill to the space last occupied by Blockbuster Video, between Sterling Place and Eighth Avenue. This new space, long occupied by a great French restaurant named Michel's, is much larger than the current Franny's, and owners Francine Stephens and Andrew Feinberg plan on keeping the old space and turning it into a fine dining Italian restaurant called Marco's.
Since then, construction has moved along slowly and we haven't heard too much from ownership. But right after the New Year they gifted us with some photos of the new interior via Facebook.
There will now be two wood-burning ovens (above) instead of the current one, which will allow them to accommodate a much higher capacity than they currently do. It's a double-wide storefront, and it appears as if one of them will be dominated by a bar.
There's also a private dining room opening in the cellar, a very nice addition.
The facade is still under construction, but I'll be sure to get some photos as soon as it's revealed. They're planning on opening up within a month.

i love frannies...seems strange though that the pizza is the least great thing on the menu.
Franny's clam pizza is the best there is outside of New Haven.
Great post thanks Dan
Franny's is amazing. Clam pie, their pastas, their specials and the cocktails. It's all great and the new place will have takeout and lunch so I'm pretty psyched!
I really want to like their clam pie, but every time I order it I find it painfully salty even though I usually prefer my food salty
Big bar = less tables = long-ass wait time = pass.
Besides, I don't do gluten.
Faros,
The new space is twice as large as the former space and will have nearly double the amount of seating.
Hey Faros:
I'm GF, too, and Franny's has an excellent menu of "small plates" that can build a delicious, non-pizza dinner. I <3 Franny's.
Faros: Eat at the bar. Not only at Franny's, but anywhere there's a wait for a table.
Had a great meal at Franny's on Saturday night. Crazy ass 90 minute wait (as usual - went elsewhere for drinks) but the food was exceptional. As mentioned above, they did a handful of options for anyone with Gluten issues.
A bigger Franny's is a good thing.
Know what's suprisingly excellent, though? Brooklyn Central. Two straight weekends doing takeout from there. While I'm still excited to try Elizabeth Falkner's new place on Atlantic, BC really is a worthy contender.
Agree with Brooklyn central few crowds and as good as Frannys and others of that ilk.
Giuseppina's for the win! Perfect pizza and calzone!
It's on 6th ave and 19th street in south south slope.....
Ninety Fucking Minutes!
Fuck that.
Brooklyn Central = Franny's???? Sorry no
Anyone who thinks Brooklyn Central is as good as Franny's (or anywhere close) should have a taste bud transplant immediately. Brooklyn Central is okay/good, but nothing on the level of Franny's. Giusppina's (also mentioned above) is far better than Brooklyn Central.
Franny's is superior on all accounts...their pasta, the incredible selection of appetizers and specials as well as the pizza.
Ute speaks the truth.
Can't wait!
