Mavi Jeans Coming to Big Storefront on Fifth and Union
Tuesday, July 2, 2025 at 2:08PM
The mystery has been solved: Mavi Jeans, a Turkey-based shop that specializes in--you guessed it-- jeans, will be moving into the doublewide storefront that's currently under construction on the prime corner of Fifth Avenue and Union Street. A manager at Brooklyn Industries, the clothing store right across the street that has a partnership with the company, confirmed that this is indeed the next tenant.
After word got around that a clothing store had been lined up to take over the storefront, which had previously been home to a pizza parlor and a check-cashing service, many guessed that due to what must be an astronomical rent the only feasible tenant could be a chain along the lines of J. Crew or Baby Gap. Mavi is certainly a chain, with stores in lands as distant as Berlin, Vancouver, and Istanbul, but as opposed to stores selling exclusively Mavi products these jeans are more often than not available in larger jeans stores and clothing shops, 15 places in New York alone.

Never heard of them. I give them 5 months at most.
Brooklyn industries sold Mavi jeans for a while. I bought a pair for something like $80. They wore through in year and tore in two spots. Pretty unimpressive for an upscale jean.
Love Mavi, this is awesome news.
$80 is not an upscale jean. All jeans at GAP start at $70 and H&M is not much less.
Upscale jeans are in the $150-300 category.
Terminology aside, my point is that an $80 jean should last more than a year. I've had a few pairs of GAP jeans, that were around $50, last for 6 or 7 years. I'm just stating that I didn't find them all that well made and they wore out way quicker than your typical GAP jean.
That was just one example, though. Perhaps they have some sturdier offerings than the ones they sold through BI.
Your first problem was shopping at BI in the first place. Terrible store.
Here is some info on the company:
Mavi Jeans is a brand of denim jeans founded in 1991, headquartered in Istanbul, Turkey. The company manufactures jeans for both women and men, targeting a younger age group.
Mavi has flagship stores in New York,[1] Vancouver, Istanbul, Berlin and Frankfurt. There are 15 Mavi showrooms worldwide located in Istanbul, New York, Vancouver, Montreal, London, Frankfurt, Munich, Copenhagen, Brussels, Sydney, Zurich, Paris, Toronto, Milano and Amsterdam.
Celebrities who wear this brand of jeans include Kate Winslet and Chelsea Clinton. The newest celebrity face of the company is Adriana Lima.
The company's name derives from the fact that 'Mavi' is a Turkish word for blue. Its major factory in Çerkezköy-Tekirdağ Province
Wow, that's......not what I was expecting. Space could have bee used better. Lots of folks need work clothes. Lots of people have kids. If you're going the chain route, I'd have just gone for broke with a Banana or Gap Kids here.
This doesn't really fill anyone's needs. Plenty of expensive jeans already at Something Else. Color me disappointed.
Anyone who spends that much on jeans is a fool. I buy my jeans at Target, less than $20, and they last! If the hipsters don't approve of my Wranglers, they can kiss my shoes!
they'll do fine as long as they have vegetarian and gluten free options.
Hmm, you can get Kirkland brand men's jeans for 13 bucks. But you got to have someone with a Costco card to let you in. Liquor store next to the Sunset Park Costco has the cheapest prices for both wine and hard stuff, but you need your own bags for both places to carry off your purchases.
I sense a vicious circle occurring here.
So many Slopers ion blogs complain about us parents and our cute offspring. I've also now seen about three comments in which people brag of wearing $15 Target jeans with elastic waistbands and designs on the butt pocket that give away that, yes, you are wearing $15 jeans from Target.
This is why you complain about us parents. It's not because you have shin marks from our strollers (we've got more important things to worry about - have you ever heard a conversation between two people who've never even thought about being parents on 7th Ave? SHOOT ME.) It's because our children our constant reminders to you that, at least once in the past few years, we've gotten laid.....and I'd like to think that part of that had to do with, once upon a time, we wore nice jeans.
Now? We have kids and give little thought to what we wear. I once made it all the way to PPW before I realized I was pantsless and wearing mis-matched shoes. L'IL SLOPE WARZ? Dressed to the f'ing nines.
That being said, I don't know if I want Mavi here, although I guess it makes for a good gateway drug for those moving back away from the Burg and Bushwick when those biological clocks start a-tickin. It's ok. You can still look good.....FOR NOW. BWAHAHAHAHA.
Please excuse the numerous grammatical errors I made above. Like I said, I'm lucky I remembered to wear pants this morning.
Are you sure Brooklyn Industries isn't moving into this space and Mavi moving in across the street where Brooklyn Industries is now?

Anyone shopping at Target is a Midwesterner.
I don't even wear jeans. I'm not dressing that far down.

H&M have jeans starting at 9.95.
Wow and what Chinese toddler got paid 3 cents a week to make those jeans?
It costs more to ship them from China than 9.95.
Nothing gets between me and my wranglers
9.95 (or $13) Jeans aren't made in China - they are too high a wage country - they are likely made in places like Bangladesh.
All their cuts look like dad jeans, which might be a plus for them in park slope. I've been seeing way too many men in flip flops roaming the neighborhood, so I assume we're going for full on suburbs style at this point. I guess everyone has forgotten we still live in new york.
The mavi website has a whole independent maternity section. I'm guessing that will be a feature in this store as well.
